"Babak Mirsalari, also known as 'Supermarket Saint,' is a versatile and dedicated composer and performer who draws on a diverse range of musical influences and disciplines. With a background in dramatic arts and a Bachelor's degree in Popular Music and Recording from the University of Salford, he has honed his composition and performance skills through years of experience working with bands and live-scoring theatrical productions in the UK and Iran.

Drawing on his heritage and contemporary musical genres, Babak's compositions and performances span a variety of styles, including contemporary jazz, electronic, world fusion, post-rock, film scores, and experimental ambient. In recent years, he has work with organisations such as BBC, ICA, The Tetley, and Tate, for whom he has created compositions and sound designs for short films and audio dramas by emerging artists. Notably, his music for the short documentary 'Grenfell: Five years, Five stories' was widely acclaimed and highly viewed on BBC iPlayer.

Babak's recent residency at Opera North in Leeds provided an opportunity to create a deeply personal and reflective work, 'Leave to Remain.' The piece draws on his personal experiences to explore themes of identity, displacement, and belonging, and showcases his skills in composition and performance. He has since secured further funding from Help Musicians to collaborate with a visual artist and incorporate moving images from his family's archives of 8mm and VHS footage, creating a powerful and poignant multimedia work. Keep an eye out for his upcoming project, 'Supermarket Saint,' which is sure to be another incredible musical journey."
